Volunteer Opportunity Spotlight: Project FeederWatch

Starts November 1st!
Project FeederWatch, operated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Birds Canada, is a critical tool for monitoring the distribution and abundance of winter bird populations. Participants survey the birds that visit their backyards, or any location of their choice, from November to April. The schedule is flexible; participants choose when to count and how much time to spend observing.
The data collected by FeederWatchers help scientists understand:
- Long-term trends in bird distribution and abundance
- The timing and extent of winter irruptions of winter finches and other species
- Expansions or contractions in the winter ranges of feeder birds
- The kinds of foods and environmental factors that attract birds
- How disease is spread among birds that visit feeders
Information and registration is available on the Project FeederWatch homepage.
