Travis County BCP October events

In addition to the regular Snowden Wednesday workdays, Travis County will be holding a couple of special events in October:

Volunteer Appreciation/Plant Rescue, Sat. Oct 10

Join us for a special day celebrating our incredible volunteers while helping rescue the plants that have made the Visitor Center landscape so special. As construction approaches, this will be our one opportunity to rescue as many native plants as possible before we lose access to the site. Volunteers will help dig, pot, and relocate plants for future restoration projects on the BCP and at your home!

Schedule:

• 9–11 AM: Plant rescue
• 11 AM–12 PM: Volunteer appreciation lunch, presentation celebrating volunteer accomplishments, a preview of future opportunities at the new Visitor Center, and a hike to Shelter Cave
• 12–2 PM: Optional afternoon plant rescue

Roots & Wings: Planting for Bats! Wed. Oct 21

Celebrate Roots & Wings by helping create a more fire-resilient landscape that also supports wildlife and pollinators! As part of our efforts to make the Snowden House a model for home hardening and wildfire preparedness, we’re relocating an existing bat garden away from the wooden deck while maintaining and expanding valuable habitat. Volunteers will help carefully dig up plants from the current garden, transplant them, and add a mix of native species into a new bat garden.
