Thank you for your interest in making a difference!
The Texas Master Naturalist Program trains volunteers to educate, serve, and support the conservation of natural resources in their communities across Texas.
The Balcones Canyonlands Chapter is based in North Austin and Western Travis County, with particular focus on the Balcones Canyonland Preserve and Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. If you primarily intend to volunteer outside of our area, visit the State TMN website to find a chapter near you.
To become a Certified Texas Master Naturalist, you must:
- Complete an initial training course with a local chapter
- Contribute at least 40 hours of volunteer service annually
- Attend at least 8 hours of advanced training each year
Our chapter’s next initial training course will be held in the fall of 2027. Content is based on the Texas Master Naturalist statewide curriculum and tailored to our area, featuring local expert instructors. The majority of coursework is held online on weekday evenings.
Interested in training with our chapter? Check back here in spring 2027 for updated information on applying for the course that fall. For questions, please contact training@bctxmn.org.
