WE GIVE NATURE A HAND

Texas-Master-Naturalist_logo

When you become a Texas Master Master Naturalist you become part of a team of “master volunteers” dedicated to improving the management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. We do this via hands-on work, education, and outreach activities.

The Texas Master Naturalist program is a partnership between the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and other local partners. WE ARE THE BALCONES CANYONLANDS AT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY TX CHAPTER

The Balcones Canyonlands chapter is the first “Collegiate Chapter” in the Texas Master Naturalist family since it was started in 2013 by Sam Whitehead, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science & Conservation at Concordia University. This means that our chapter benefits from collaboration between community members and students, and students receive academic benefits at Concordia for their membership & participation. Community members provide the continuity and act as mentors for the college students.

WE INVEST IN CONTINUAL LEARNING

All chapter members invest time to remain certified, including at least 40 hours of volunteer service and eight hour of advanced training.

WE WELCOME EVERYONE

The Balcones Canyonlands chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist Program values diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to nature. Our chapter commits to a culture where difference is valued and unique perspective and experience is welcomed. We affirm that there should be no barriers to enjoying the outdoors while acknowledging there is vital work to ensure natural spaces are inclusive to all. The environment we study, steward, and enjoy, is beautifully biodiverse.  From this model that nature has given, we recognize the power of diversity to bring about impactful change to the environment.
