WE GIVE NATURE A HAND
When you become a Texas Master Master Naturalist you become part of a team of “master volunteers” dedicated to improving the management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. We do this via hands-on work, education, and outreach activities.
WE CONNECT AND ENHANCE OUR LOCAL ECOSYSTEMS
Here are just a few examples of projects the Balcones Canyonlands Chapter does to preserve and protect Texas’ natural state:
- Develop and maintain pollinator gardens
- Monitor water quality at various streams
- Track and monitor bat populations
- Remove invasive plants and replant with native plants
- Rescue native plants from land to be developed
- Build and maintain new trails
- Provide trail guides and docents at local preserves
- Inventory bug populations
- And much more!
WE INVEST IN CONTINUAL LEARNING
All chapter members invest time to remain certified, including at least 40 hours of volunteer service and eight hours of advanced training.
WE WELCOME EVERYONE
The Balcones Canyonlands chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist Program values diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to nature. Our chapter commits to a culture where difference is valued and unique perspective and experience is welcomed. We affirm that there should be no barriers to enjoying the outdoors while acknowledging there is vital work to ensure natural spaces are inclusive to all. The environment we study, steward, and enjoy, is beautifully biodiverse. From this model that nature has given, we recognize the power of diversity to bring about impactful change to the environment.
