2026 Preview: From Endangered Species to Lost Peoples

By Suzy Meriwether, VP of Programs
Our 2026 lineup of chapter meetings and field trips will showcase the remarkable biodiversity and rich cultural history of our area. Featured speakers will introduce us to endangered species and the wild cats of Texas. For those eager to deepen their connection with the land, an expert will guide us through the art and science of foraging. We’ll focus on how each of us can contribute to scientific discovery through citizen science initiatives—learn how your observations support vital research and conservation efforts across Texas. We’ll also journey back in time with a fascinating presentation on the early people of the Pecos region, exploring the ancient cultures that thrived in the dramatic canyonlands and left behind remarkable rock art and archaeological treasures. From understanding our current biodiversity challenges to connecting with the deep human history of our region, we hope our chapter meetings and activities offer something for every naturalist. We look forward to having you join us in 2026.
