Next Chapter Meeting Tuesday, April 8th at 7:00 pm: BATS!

These night fliers are masters at pest control. And, the only flying mammal.
Join us for our April Chapter meeting to learn about local bats from Austin Bat Refuge (ABR) co-founders Dianne Odegard and Lee Mackenzie. They rehabilitate bats, educate the public, and resolve bat-human conflicts.
While nine bat species live in Austin year-round, Mexican free-tailed bats are the most famous, emerging from under Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk from late spring to early fall. These bats can fly up to 100 miles per hour, making them the world’s fastest mammal. “They’ve been beloved city mascots for over forty years,” Mackenzie said. “They add a little magic to the world.”
However, some people fear bats due to primal reactions to things that fly in the dark. But bats are important as they are the main predators of night-flying insects, providing natural pest control.
