Celebration of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP) at Concordia

To celebrate 20 years of preservation, we threw a grand birthday party on Earth Day, April 22nd! We opened the Concordia section of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve  to the public and provided informational tours. In addition, we had a guest lecturer, Ms. Valarie Bristol, a silent auction, special presentations by professors about topics such bee keeping, and lots of informational booths from like-minded organizations.

We are pleased to report that we met the goals we set for this project:

  1. To educate or increase the general knowledge of the public on the importance of conservation of natural resources, preservation of natural lands and the protection of endangered species;
  2. To increase public awareness not only of the preserve, but also of our Texas Master Naturalist chapter and Concordia University; and
  3. To allow access to a normally restricted area of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve system.

Thank you to all our Texas Master Naturalists for your assistance!
